Hi everyone, I know I could look this up but I figure someone here will know right off the bat....

The person selling them says

"Pair of rare breed chickens to good loving pet home only. these beauties are a 2010 hatch. Shown, got 1sts at all their fall fair events. Rooster will happily be picked up and cuddled. 25 $ for both birds. Don't pass these lovelies up! Rooster will grow a long tail".

They would be my first chickens in the chicken house I have almost finished. Would I get any eggs or are they more 'decorative'? Are they reasonable for free ranging and/or a beginner?

Thanks.

Silver phoenixes! They are certainly a wonderful breed, and beautiful. The hen will lay a few eggs, but I wouldn't expect much. They are not a breed that exists for egg production. They should be enjoyable birds to have for you, and they will do well free-ranging as long as you keep them in something enclosed for the first few weeks so they associate it with "home." They are fairly long-lived birds and not always the friendliest (they can be somewhat aloof), but gorgeous to have walking around the yard. Good luck!
