Here I go looking for input again! Admittedly, I'm pretty preoccupied with identifying the gender of my chicks since we aren't so sure we can keep roosters... I get stressed at the idea of having to split up or rehome any of them (I have two pairs of chicks 5 weeks apart).

I do not know the breed or definite parentage, however, some of the breeds I was told where the eggs came from were Leghorns, Rhode Island Reds, Bovan/ISA Browns, and Black Sexlinks... unsure of any others.

So what do you all think? What breed are they? Pullets or cockerels? Let me know if you want more information on them!

OMG that dog is ridiculous! I love it!
What's it's name?

I've never seen a pug with that coloring. It is cute.

The chicks so far both look like pullets, but the black one does have a bit of comb growth, so keep an eye on that one especially in the next few weeks, watching the comb and wattles for growth spurts.

Of the breeds you listed, the white and red one probably came from a red sex link mother. Both ISA Browns and Bovan Browns are brands of red sex links. A black sex link is probably the mother of the darker chick. The father was probably a different breed, who knows what, but it means your chicks are mixed breeds.

Thanks, he's the best!

Appreciate your input. :) Funny you should say the black one is who you'd be suspicious of, because I've had my eye on the light one due to the little bit of pink around the comb. Hmmm...

Makes sense about being mixed breeds. I haven't figured out all the genetics stuff yet.

Sex links are already mixed breeds. It makes no practical difference unless you're into showing. I think the signs are good that both are pullets, but the next few weeks should tell the tale.

Right! Nope, not into showing or anything... I guess more curious just to compare to pictures of other chickens of the same/similar breed. :)

Fingers crossed for pullets.

6.5 week update! Welcoming any further input. :)
Maple (chick #1) is making me question her gender due to pink in the comb/wattles... however, since day one she has always been fast to mature/grow so I think it is still possible she is a pullet despite the earlier comb/wattle development. Her comb/wattles have shown the same consistent size and pink shade at the base for the past few weeks as you can probably see in the earlier pics (although those were indoor lighting). I've wondered if it is common for her breed/mix to develop like this and still be a pullet. If she's a pullet I wouldn't be surprised if she lays before all the rest.

Meanwhile, Raincloud (chick #2) has me convinced she is a pullet. I'd be shocked to find out otherwise at this point!

9.5 week update. Input? Fairly sure Raincloud (dark one) is a pullet. Thinking it is still possible that Maple (light one) is a pullet as well. No real change in comb and wattles since they first got a pink color, and her whole comb hasn’t turned still, definitely still yellow-orange in the tips.

Not seeing significant difference in feathering or size now.
