My girls are just over 6 weeks old now, and I'm starting to fret over one of them. They SHOULD all be pullets, but even hatcheries mess up. Anyone see anything I might be missing?

T-Rexy the buff brahma. (She looks like a lil T-rex when she stomps around, so . . . )

I'm worried about her, mostly. She barely has a comb, but her feathers are growing in a bit . . . weird.

Hopper the Gold Laced Wyandotte

Pretty sure she's a pullet. No comb at all.

Norbert the Easter Egger.

Pretty sure she's a pullet as well. No comb. (though she certainly has the friendly personality of a little cockerel. She's not happy unless she's right in your face talking about her day.)

After looking around the site at other buff brahma owners, I'm a bit worried at how many posters I see saying brahma roos grow feathers like T-Rexy. I suppose I probably have a T-Rex on my hands instead. What a shame ):

Got a few update photos! They're just a few days shy of 9 weeks old, and they're looking pretty. I'm still pretty sure two are girls and one is a boy.

Hopper the wyandotte. She has really red wattles, but I read that's common with her breed.

Norbert the . . . something (the hatchery had her listed as an ameraucana AND easter egger, so I don't know which she is). No wattle, but her comb is getting a very slight pink to it.

And poor little T-Rexy, now renamed T-Rex. The comb has been pink for a few weeks, and he's just barely getting his back feathers in now. So I figured that meant rooster. He also has little baby wattles that you can't see very well in this picture.

The only one that is definitely a pullet is your Easter Egger, Norbert. Hopper looks like a rooster to me, due to those red wattles and reddening comb. T-Rex also appears to be a male, because of the slow feathering and reddish comb. Post some more photos in a few more weeks.

Are you sure about Hopper? Everything I've read says wyandotte pullets get red early on, and sprout big manly wattles.

Will do on the pictures!

I'm not sure about Hopper, but right now I'm leaning towards rooster. From what I've read, if a Wyandotte is showing red wattles at this age, it is a rooster. Your Hopper may just be an early-maturing female, but it is, in my opinion, more likely that he is a male. Hopefully, this isn't the case, but, no matter what he is, he's very pretty!

S/he really is a pretty one! I'm hoping for a girl, because with T-Rex being a rooster (and a possible sizzle rooster that I'm waiting to crow or egg) that's just too many boys for my small flock. I hope I won't have to get rid of some.

I am extremely confused over T-Rexy. He's 11 weeks old now and finally has his back feathers and wing feathers grown in, but his wattle and comb are barely there. Pink, but barely there. And that stubby tail! He's either a very odd girl or a very odd boy. I'll try and get a better picture tomorrow, but here's one from today. It just has me scratching my chin.
