Def looks like lice to me...the white on the shafts look like eggs when I blow up the picture...usually if one has them they all do and if this is lice, Id sayits a pretty bad infestation on the little thing! Good luck!!!....

Its Lice!!! I can't believe how many fell off when I dusted!!! How can people let something get so bad on little babies . I want to go back and rescue the other babies he had in the brooder with these 4..

All those little spots are what fell off in just a couple minutes..Dusting sure woke up the little icky buggers my girls and guy and all kinds of picking at each other and them selves and singing to me ( its not really a chirp)

WOW. What an awful infestation!! Pretty crappy of the seller to have just ignored that. Lice can make the birds very lethargic. If you ever buy new chickens again,check around their vents(butts), the nasty little bugs seem to gather there.

So glad you got it taken care of. Don't forget to redust them in about 7-10 days.

You can get powder for lice and mites at your local feed store, just ask if you can't find it. Its pretty straight-forward just follow the directions for poultry on the side, and you may need to dust 2 or 3 times, 10 to 14 days apart if you just introduced new birds to your flock this is a good idea anyway. It definitely looks like nits to me, especially if they don't just fall off when she shakes her head. Also, some birds really are just more "tasty" to bugs than others it seems. I have gotten several from the same place and some were infested and some weren't. Anyhow, best of luck.

It was pretty low of the seller but

1. I searched all day that day to find someone that had young pullets big enough they didn't need light but still little and still ended up driving an hr.

2. I know they are in a better home now, and will have taken them bugs or no bugs..Atleast I can get rid of these..I got some from a different guy and they ended up having a rsepitatory illness and everything I have read said that once they had it they where a carrier so 2 weeks after I got them they had to go...and I won't be a repeat customer there..

They are dusted and in a brooder box for now its a little crowded but its what I have to keep them quaranteen for know..

with any new birds of any age it is best to quarantine for a month and during that month i will dip my birds if weather permits if not then i dust them, i also do a mild warming and a mild antibiotic just in case they have something. i just got some chickens from an auction that had lice on them (different type then you have) and one has really bad leg mites. idk why people think its ok for them to have and to get that bad but some do think that way

at least they can get cured and be in a happy home instead of being eating alive
