What are you dreaming of for your next coop?

I just finished building our first coop and the first thing I've built since 8th grade woodshop. AND I'M ALREADY PLANNING MY NEXT COOP!!! Everyone says don't take used coops, but I hope I can sterilize my current one and give it away after I build another.

What will you do next time? What are your grand ideas? Mine are pretty small-time. I think I'm going to put the door in the floor (make coop big enough for that not to detract from space) and build a run around all four sides at the height of the floor.

I dream of coops all the time. Lol. I am currently checking Craigslist multiple times a day so I have a second coop to seperate my guineas from my chickens. If you do your run to surround the coop you'll want it walk in height.

I'm thinking about making a portable coop from leftover pallets at work, since they get rid of the pallets. I can have as many as I want. And thinking about using spray foam insulation in the walls for stability and to keep out rodents.

As long as we're dreaming.....a 20' x 40' well ventilated building with multiple pens(all with separate runs) and plenty of supply storage space.

Planning a smaller, adjoining "tweener/brooder" coop that will have it's own run. The run will share a screened side with the main run, and have a door that can be opened between the two.

Actually, i've already designed it, i just need to build it. The main coop and run is in place now.

We dream alike lol

Ah, chicken dreams!

I made a Pinterest board when I started out called Chicken Dreams. I put coop ideas and my chicken wish list on it.

I'm with you guys. If the sky was the limit, I'd have a huge building with every amenity.

Chfriedmam, I'd think you would be able to sell your coop for good money when you don't need it any more. It doesn't take most of us very long to realize and appreciate how much expense and hard work goes into our chicken accommodations. I liked your post because I too built my first coop with my own hands, without much prior building experience, and it really gave me a sense of being competent. I can DO this!
