What are you having for...

chickaddict, I'm so sorry to hear the passing of your cousin, you situation really hits close to home. I hope that when it eventually does come around in the states, your Thanksgiving is amazing, and it sounds like everyone you know really has something to be thankful for: you! I have friends with parents like you, and it's really hard to tell them just how important they are all the time, because there are no words.

On another note, happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians!!
We had it at our oma's cottage, and there were veggies and mashed potatoes and yams and pie and whatnot, all very good. No turkey this year (instead there was an array of other meats and whatnot for everyone). It was really nice, but there was almost no one there. We have a really big family, but it was just my 4 other siblings and I, my aunt, her friend and my oma (the family's been kind falling apart these past few years, but this was the first Thanksgiving ever that I didn't see any of my cousin's at all).

This just makes me even more thankful for the family I do have on both sides that do love and care for each other. HAVE AN AWESOME DAY, EH!

I love to make turkey dinner, but planning any type of event at our house is next to impossible. DH may or may not be out of the country. So, normally we don't do anything. Hopefully this year will be different, but we both know better then to plan ahead.

We haven't really done the whole christmas thing in awhile either.

This year, at our new house, we will have a tree. I am decorating it, and hopefully our puppy won't eat it.

Same goes for christmas. If we can have a dinner, it will be turkey. Of course, we have to watch the A christmas story marathon as well. That is a tradition.

Chickaddict, I am sorry for your loss! I just wanted you to know that growing up gathering all the family at Grandmas for Thanksgiving is my fondest memory! I have reinstated the Holidays with my adult children and everyone and their SO gather at my house! We dont just show up at 2 to eat! I insist everyone be here early we visit, prepare and cook then eat together! Last year we even dropped a tree and gathered fire wood! Memories is all I have to leave my children and grandchildren and thats what they get! Also I am loosing my MIL to Pancreatic Cancer Stage four , this may be her last Thanksgiving if she makes it that long! Everyone enjoy and celebrate with the ones you love this year...you never know!
