Have two 3'x6' brodders set up and both now have chicks in them. 21 Horstman RC RIR that just arrived this morning and are all drinking well and making poo. Have HinkJC Buff Orps right below them that we brought home last Tuesday.(brooders stacked in old milkhouse) 19 Orps, as we lost one the second day we got them home. Rest are doing great. It is remarkable the difference in chicks just two weeks older.

we'll hubby has a good job...and we try not to think about what it costs other then a lot. I will say that bacon from a homegrown pig is beyond delicious. And my goats milk is creamier and healthier then store bought. And it's not that I know what I'm doing as I just kind of threw myself into it...long way from a city girl who grew up in San Diego lol. The hubby who was raised on a dairy just tolerates my desire to have a zoo with just the occasional bitching lol. I buy critters and he buys guns. Though he has put his foot down on adding anything else that isn't freezer bound.

Well, I don't have a significant other, work a full time job, am not as young as I once was, and don't want to bite off more than I can chew! I'd love to have a milk source as it's one of my all time favorite beverages. (I've never got around to trying goat's milk and have heard good and bad about it) The thing is I can't use 5+ gallons a day, and don't have the time, materials, space or knowledge to make cheeses and butter etc.let alone milking the critter(s) every day sometimes twice a day? I am considering a pig (or 2) as I am quite fond of bacon

as well as other pork related products (nothing better than a juicy broiled pork chop or rottiseried pork shoulder <drool>). Anyway...we'll have to wait and see what happens

There is nothing better than homegrown pork! My only suggestion would be to make good friends with a restaurant as they eat A LOT of food before freezer camp. Lots of restaurants will keep a "slop bucket" for you that can really make it an affordable venture. Mine were named Ham and Bacon!
