My chickens are scared of cow birds.
They run under the shade tree when a turkey buzzard flies over.
They HATE my MILs Jack Russell but do not pay my Golden Ret. any mind. They have eaten small snakes and the Rooster chases Squirrels away. (Hawks)We had a mocking bird that would sit in a tree above the chickens and make a noise like a hawk and all the birds would go lay flat and hide. It did it all the time and now they just do not pay that noise any mind. I guess it is what they get accustom to.
Mine go TOWARD our dogs if they're outside the run - they've decided the dogs are safe. If a visiting dog comes into the area, they run away from it. They must have pretty good hearing, because they're quite vigilant about noise - a crow, a car going by - they stop and listen to decide if it's a threat, and then go on with their important chicken business.
They are most definitely not afraid of me. If I walk into the run while they're in there, they come up and peck at my shoes, and if my Golden Retriever is in there with them, they peck at her!
Not scared of the dog, walk right under the goat, nothing much so far seems to bother them (14 weeks old) BUT, bring a new snack they've never seen and get out of the way because they'll be bolting. Corn on the cob's really scary. Then much clucking and discussion before the roo will edge in to check things out. Wouldn't want to get killed by that plate of pea's and corn!
When i first got my 4 BO`s they got used to my dog.. they wouldnt bat an eye at her running towards them to get her ball etc..
Then stray dogs came and killed one chicken after chasing them all around the property. After that I cant even get near them anymore. The rooster takes off like a madman if he sees our dog now.
2 days ago 3 more stray dogs killed my favorite hen and now the rest of the chickens just scream when they see my dog. This is all after they been chased and seen their mates beeing ripped apart.
They went from tame and handfed to scared out of their wits.
Used to be where I would to into the coop to water/feed them the rooster would peck at my red toenail polish. He wont even do that anymore...
Mine are afraid of...nothing, it seems. If I make owl noises in the yard, they all freeze, like a big game of poultry freeze tag. Aside from that, nothing scares them.
Oh wait...I farted real loud once, and it looked like those old war movies where a bomb goes off nearby-they all squatted down and froze in place.
