What are your state's "hot issues?"

Joe J...don't go bringing in rational arguments, that isn't allowed. Although. I do suspect that marijuana smoked in the quantity that tobacco is smoked would cause some deaths for much the same reasons; but I don't really see anyone developing a three pack a day habit with weed.

Now that sounds like an expensive habit!

For my state, CA, it is prop 30 that would make our sales tax the highest in the nation. We already have the highest income taxes here. And our Governor stated that if Prop 30 is not passed he will be forced to cut education even more. Our state is near bankrupt, tuition fees have been increased several times over the past few years, gas taxes are the highest in the nation, and our state assembly still can't make it work.

No on 30 for this gal. I am already taxed to death.

There's also the food labeling laws. I'll be a no on that one also.

No, it's not legal to grow Opium poppies in the USA. It's illegal - it's just not widely enforced, though if you were growing enough of them sooner or later drug enforcement might notice.

Really? I must have been misinformed. Glad I didn't decide to grow any.
To clarify I had no desire to grow poppies for opium. They're beautiful and have delicious healthy seeds.

I am not so sure that it is illegal to grow poppies in the US. As far as I am aware there was a law called the Poppy Control Act that absolutely made it illegal in the US to grow or even possess the seeds. However, that law was repealed more then 30 years ago and now the law regarding the growing of poppies is pretty confusing to say the least. I have grown poppies every year for more then twenty years as an ornimental flower in my gardens in Upstate NY and do not expect to ever have a problem. Also, growers in Californis grow poppies in hugh numbers for the seeds. I would suspect that unless you have acres of poppies and you are cutting the seed pod to extract the bad stuff you would not have any problems growing poppies in your garden.
