I am Wondering if flock block or foraging block as they are called are a good idea. Does it make the chicken lazy , since they don't have to go
digging around for food. Really love any other ideas or feedback on this.

While I'm sure everyone has different experiences with them, I got rid of mine. Twice.

Got one, girls started in on it and would eat it and ignore both their pellets and their oyster shell. Suddenly we're getting soft shelled eggs so I got rid of it. A year plus passes so decided to try it again. Same thing occurred. Got rid of the second one, too.

I will say that the wild birds and squirrels love it, though!

I usually get one for the birds in the winter. Gives them something to do if there is a lot of snow on the ground, and they won't come out of the coop. I haven't had any bad side effects from using one.

I've bought them a couple of times for my flock. I found they'd peck at it a little bit and then ignore it, mine seem to prefer scratch or seed tossed around.

Flock-block update from me, all my bird love the blocks when I bring a new one home I do get surrounded. the blocks I get come from Tractor Supply , it does have a high crude fat content, and it rarly last three day and thats plus their regular feed. Any thoughts?

. Just GOOGLE flock block substitute recipe (It's posted on the chicken chicks website)

I have used them a couple of times when I am out of town for a week or so and have someone "babysitting" the flock for me. When they don't get any free ranging time, I figure it gives them something to do. For my flock of 8, when I've gone on a trip of more than 3 or 4 days, the whole thing has been gone by the time I got home. I don't like how it smells though. Since the last time I used one, I've been trying to avoid all foreign-produced dried mealworms, so I'm not sure if I'd buy one again.
