Of course! Chicks should have feathered feet and "fluff" on their hair, which sounds so exciting!! Color of the chicks depends on which hen ends up going broodyOh I’d love to see pictures when they hatch/grow

He was black with iridescent feathers. So these hens actually have some of that coloring in their feathers.Oooo those are pretty! What color was the rooster?
Those are purebred Anconas by the looks of itI don’t have experience with those roosters but my sister has spitzhaubens and a Sumatra roo. I hatched out some of her eggs and ended up with these two. View attachment 3009452View attachment 3009453View attachment 3009454View attachment 3009455
They are very similar looking and very hard to tell apart. One has more white on her than the other. They’re flighty birds and lay an off white egg.
They can't have a Sumatra dad because they don't have melanistic skin, a pea comb, or the colors for it. And they can't have Spitz moms because they don't have white skin, crests, or the right color pattern. Those are purebred Anconas by the looks of it
Those were the only chickens my sister had at the time. She had two roosters. A Sumatra, I ended up hatching out a Sumatra roo from her eggs, and a spitzhauben. Her hens were spithauben too. I understand your confusion though because I felt the same when I looked at them. But I asked her about her flock to double check if she had any other chickens and she told me no. She had just bought all the spitzhaubens and the sumatra that year and she had a flock of 30.They can't have a Sumatra dad because they don't have melanistic skin, a pea comb, or the colors for it. It is legitimately impossible for them to have the parentage you listed.
Both look like 100% purebred Ancona hens to me.
Are you absolutely sure? She hadn't ordered hatching eggs or something and gotten them mixed up? Or you got your chicks mixed up?Those were the only chickens my sister had at the time. I asked her again. Just to be sure. She told me she had empire leghorns, spitzhaubens, and sumatras at the time. A roo of each and hens of each. I looked up the empire leghorns and these girls look like those. She has been trying to downsize her flock so she hasn’t gotten anymore chicks or eggs. But I think she got the empire leghorns and the spitzhaubens mixed up when she was telling me about them before. Are you absolutely sure? If they have purebred parents of those breeds I absolutely guarantee you they could not come out looking like that. The genetics don't lie.
Something funky is going on here!
Beautiful girls though.
Exchquer Leghorns, you mean? I agree, they are those. They are almost identical to Anconas, but more rare, so I assumed Ancona.I asked her again. Just to be sure. Yes excelsior leghorns is what i meant. I dont know why i said empire. My sister likes to get rare breed chickens just to have them. Hence the Sumatra. I’m pretty sure she had a breeding pair but got rid of them.Exchquer Leghorns, you mean? I agree, they are those. They are almost identical to Anconas, but more rare, so I assumed Ancona.
I am thinking about letting my Cochin set on her eggs that would be crossed with a spitzhauben rooster…what did yours look like, if you don’t mind sharing?Oh I’d love to see pictures when they hatch/grow
