What banties to add to flock ?

I agree about the D'Uccles. The roosters are nice. The hens are little angels.

The D'Uccle/Serama hen we have was the sole chick that hatched out of a clutch of eggs that got chilled mid-incubation (the broody got scared off the nest). We brought her home as a day old chick and raised her by herself for two weeks until another clutch of eggs hatched and we could get her some company. I think the fact she got so much individual attention from humans has something to do with her tameness, but also just her personality.

She's the chicken that's up on your lap first when you sit out in the yard, and she's the only one who'll fly up on to your shoulder and hitch a ride as you walk around. Makes me feel like a pirate!

I don't know whether this is typical or not (because these are my first chickens), but the banties I have have really been pumping out the eggs, one a day. They're tiny eggs, of course, but very rich and tasty.

I will give a vote for any kind of Plymouth Rocks! I just got my first bantams this year (silver pencilled rocks) and they are laying like crazy. They are not fancy, but lovely little plump hens & beautiful roosters. Can't wait to see how big their eggs will get!

I vote cochins! so fluffy and sweet!
