What beheads a chicken in broad daylight?

Quote:
a weasel is not an animal you see very often.. I have seen only 2 in 66 years while I was hunting.. the only ones I see around the chickens are the ones we trap..
but I know they are there..

By hard times for an otter, do you mean no fish?? In Florida??

No fish due to no fresh water. It's been DRY here the last couple of years.

Rreally !!!!? I have not been to Fla since 2005.. Then I was at the Gulf side so there was lots of water. but not fresh water..

well , if otters got a chicken, I would guess they would eat the whole thing , judging by their size..

don't otters go out into salt water?? I thought they did..

OWC, I don't know if they will go in salt water or not. I have never seen one there, but I have seen a lot in the rivers and streams while I kayak. Another problem we have here is Bald Eagles and Swollow Tail Kites (during the summer). We have an Eagles nest less than a mile from our house and they are always on the lookout for a meal.

A coyote killed two of our cats.

Coyote's are abundant here. Fox too. We have a black bear that hangs around in the summer and a few moose. It's like wild kingdom here. Not always a good thing.

A person my dh knows has chickens and a different coyote bit the heads of a couple of chickens. Dumb things stuck their heads out a hole in the wall and the coyote bit them off. Gives me the weebie jeebies!!!!

It was definitely a hawk. Any type of predator that is landbased would not have left the carcass behind and would have made a horrible mess out of the feathers. Hawks are generally the reason for a chicken missing its head in broad daylight.

Recently all three of my chickens were killed by a fox which I saw leaving our property after the fact. The two RI Reds were beheaded, and the third, a silkie, was bitten in the neck and left to die. As I approached the scene I spotted a fox leaving our property. I have since repopulated with 2 Red Stars and 2 Ameraucanas and I am not letting them roam free unless I am out there too. I mistakenly had not put my dog out that day which is why the fox was so bold. Live and learn.
