With my hens in the past I put out a container for them to dust bath in ,i buy the food grade so its also safe if they do eat it , sometimes I will also add to my dogs food as a de-wormer.

Thank you! I usually just had play sand in an old tire for them to dust bathe in, so I will add some DE to it in the am.

Do you actually have lice and mites, or are you hoping to prevent them? First thing would be to ID exactly what you're dealing with and go from there.

I’m not the OP, but I have lice for sure. I recently bought a few laying hens from a local breeder and brought them home only to find one infested! I know it’s the name of the game, though. I’m happy I bought them and would do it over again! Just want to keep them as happy and as comfortable as possible.

DE is useless.

You'll need to dust with permethrin every 7 days for at least 2 weeks; remove all bedding; and spray the coop with permethrin.

I however don't like the powder,I just use spray.

Look at all sprays, sometimes the kitten spray,or horse fly spray is best..

Just look at the ingredients, you want permethrin.

Frontline is the best you can get it in a spray bottle one squirt at vent and under wings. Cost more but works were all others fail.
