What brand pine shavings are best

I know this thread is a little old but I am searching for dust-free shavings also. I am also in NJ. I have a lot of area to cover with shavings. I buy 20 or more big bags a year. The Agway in Flemington currently only has Langbec and they are horrible - almost all dust and few flakes. Last year they had a brand that I loved but they never have any when I'm there so I'm not sure they really carry it anymore. It was a bag with a picture of a squirrely looking thing on it. I thought they were called American Pine but I can't find them anywhere else. I had the same dust problems with the brands from TS and Rosedale Mills in Pennington. Anyone have any other places to try?

I get pine shavings from a local pet store. Suncoast Bedding Pure Pine Large Flakes - is on the bag. I pay $8.00 a bag which seems $$$ but the bag is so tightly packed I have to use a small hand rake and really work to loosen the flakes. The bag really holds a lot of large, clean, dust free flakes. If you can find this brand it is well worth the cost.

I use a brand from our farm supply store, called Devil's Tower, as in Wyoming

I don't know if it's just carried over this way, because we are so close to Wy. or if it can be found all over. It has nice big fluffy flakes, and costs around $5.95 a bag..sometimes i=on sale for less. This is one of those big bales, that is packed really well, and takes some work to break apart. It does have dust-flies through the air as I'm spreading it out, but settles-I don't think I can avoid that little bit.

I use one called ThoroughBed I buy it at one of our local feedstores. I pay around $8's for it but it is totally dust free, big fluffy pine shavings. One "bale" expands to 10.5 Cubic Feet.

Do NOT buy Mallard Creek brand of shavings they are like sawdust it is horrid we hardly used that for our horses either. Unless they were in the outside pens. It was a good inexpensive shaving to put on the ground in their overhangs, but DUSTY!!

I'm with tiki244: CHEEP!! (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Seriously, all shavings will eventually break down into dust particles. Besides, the girls (and guys) are just going to poop all over them anyhow. That adds moisture enough to deal with most any dust problem.

My girls are doing handsprings. The guineas too. We're finally thawed just enough that I could pry the door open to their run and let them free-range a bit this afternoon. Still lots of snow on the ground (2" feet), but blessedly signs of melt.

And eggs. Oh lordy. Five girls laying like CRAZY.
