What breed am I?

Hello, Just got new chicks and they came with a free rooster. His previous owner had a very mixed flock, so i am wondering if you know what he might be. He is very protective of the chicks as you can see, and they inturn love him and are much more secure feeling when he is near. Any ideal what he is? He has a 5 point comb i think, and booted feet which i think are black. The picture's are not great and its an over cast day. His feathers are a dark black and dark shiny green. I'm not 100% sure he's pure, but he looks quite a bit like a Silver Birchen Marans with that coloring and those feathered legs. Do you know if they got him from a hatchery originally? He's really handsome! A rooster that will raise a clutch of chicks is definitely a keeper!

I am not sure she had one original rooster that looked like him but much bigger and alot of other roosters that her hens hatched, i dont know of he was a hatchling or gotten from a hatchery. She had many roosters she was giving away, all seamed a mix of some kind. Although she did have some pure Silky roosters too. He was jusy so pretty and smaller then the others and a few battle scars so i picked him to come with the chicks.

I belive he is a mix... definatley some birchen in the gene pool though.

It's pretty cool that he looks after the chicks and they like him. Also very unusual. I agree with KikiLeigh-- he is a keeper.

I also think he is a mixed breed. He looks a bit like a Brahma, but just about any feather legged breed could be in his mix. Pretty bird.
