Hello!
I recently hatched my first chicks (out of a homemade incubator (cardboard box). The eggs were from a local lady who sells them to eat, but due to the lockdown I had time on my hands haha. I'm glad I found this site because it helped so much with the incubation process. Anyway, I'm so glad they hatched and I'm so in love with all of them but I was wondering if anyone had any breed guesses for them! I don't know what breeds the woman had at her farm but they were all mixed, so I'm guessing they are probably mixed breed (though I don't know exactly how chicken genetics work). I'll be posting the egg each came out of and what they look like now at around 2 weeks.

#3: black comb, beak, legs, whiteish patch under chin, smallest of all of them

#4: mostly white with black spots (I'm thinking Austra White)

Thanks!

You have a BARNYARD MIX,,,, which is not a bad thing. Many of your chickens will grow up to look like half this, and some of that and a pinch of that.
You should end up with good layers, since farm person keeps hers, for that purpose. The 50% possible roosters, are kind of hard to get to lay eggs, but do make good eatin:drool:drool:drool
Keep us posted with pix as they get to POL. :love to see how they turn out.
Just shows, that you had success with a home-made box incubator ,,:thumbsup
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

Thank you both! They really do seem to be growing right before my eyes! They're 1 month old now, and though not as "cute" their personalities are really shining through.
I was wondering if anyone wanted to take a guess as to their gender? I understand it's a little early, and it doesn't matter too much but it would be nice to see other people's inputs (:

#1: I've been thinking pullet but the comb is starting to get a little red on the sides (also, what type of comb is this?)

#2: I don't know a whole lot but this one has screamed cockerel to me almost immediately. he's the most outgoing

#3: not sure about this one because the comb is black, though its still small... also, it's feathers have come in really crazy and ruffled looking haha.

#4: fairly certain this one's a pullet

Thanks (:

Hi!
Figured I would make my last update on this bunch (:

Black Mamba & Little Red started laying at 18 weeks, almost to the day. Opal hasn't started laying yet but I'm guessing any day now. They're all super friendly. The Roo turned out to be very handsome and mostly good tempered. He takes care of his ladies but sometimes tries to pick fights with us or the dogs. If he bites me one more time that may be the last of him :idunno

I have 5 more chicks in the brooder now... I don't know how you stop accumulating them

What color are the gorgeous Black Mamba's feet pads?
And what color eggs are you getting?

They’re the same black color as her legs!
Mamba’s eggs are the same tan color as the egg she came from (#3) and Red’s are tan but always have a nice pink bloom over them :love

Can I see pics of her feet?
Cool! She may be pure Australorp.
