Does anyone know what breed these chicks are? Wetthink they're 3/4 weeks old. Next question will be what sex they are??

They look a lot like my red sex links did but I honestly am not an expert, perhaps a closer photo? Might give a bit more detail to look at.

Thanks for the replies. We thought they looked like cornish x too. We hoped to be wrong as we took them on as a favour hoping for laying hens. I was told these don't live very long so its more humane to kill them for meat?? It's sad!!

If they're cornish x rocks, then give them another 5-8 weeks before you slaughter them. They will be a good size then, for roasters... on average 8-11 lbs. Of course, if you want smaller broilers, then give them another couple of weeks, then do the deed.

Ok I've never slaughtered before. Do you snap their necks and do you have to let them hang ?? Sorry but I'm clueless about this. Just hope me n the hubby can do it. I'm a wimp!

It gets easier after the first time. You might look into seeing if there is a local meat market that processes chickens---it might be easier for you if this is the only time you will be doing this. It's pretty hard the first time.

If you'd like some info on how to do it yourself check out this area:

I prefer the upside down and letting them "fall asleep" then quickly cutting both sides hitting the jugular vein and carteroid artery--

Please be advised the links are graphic.

Thanks for info. I think I'll try the local meat market first before watching links.

Definitely Cornish X...no doubt about it. If you had another chick the same age you would see the difference like night and day in their growth for real..its like putting a middle schooler next to a line backer.
