Hello everyone! These are two of my hends, Dottie and Rosemary. I’ve been stumped on what breed or mixed breed they might be. Dottie (first pic) Is much larger than my other hens and is pretty high is the pecking order. She doesn’t take anything from anyone, but mostly minds her own business otherwise.
Rosemary is in the second pic. She’s very sweet and curious, her personlity definitley stands out. Plus shes gorgeous.
Any help would be great! Thanks!

Looks like hatchery RIR and maybe a buckeye.
Dottie has a pretty good case of scaly leg mites. How long have you been treating that? I hear it can take a while to clear up.
I originally thought Buckeye as well, but she’s much smaller than other buckeyes I’ve seen.
And Dottie is a lot bigger than my rhode islands! As well as much lighter.
I actually wasn’t aware she had scaly leg mites, I figured her legs looked like that as a result of the conditions she was living in when I rescued her and her coop mate. Thank you for pointing it out, now I can treat it. Any suggestions on what product I can use to treat this? Her coop mate has the same thing.

I'd start by soaking their legs in warm soapy water for about 20 minutes then gently cleaning them with a soft toothbrush. Dry with a towel then do their legs in canola or vegetable oil. Wipe off excess then smear with petroleum jelly. Repeat the petroleum jelly coatings daily. As I said, it takes a while to clear.
As an additional precaution I'd also clean out the coop and spray it with permethrin, let it dry then rebed. Check them for lice and mites as well. You can spray the birds with permethrin too. One squirt under each wing and under the vent. Repeat the coop cleaning and permethrin spraying of coop and birds again in 10 days to kill what hatches from eggs.
I treat all my flock with weekly coconut oil leg rubs preventively. So far I've been lucky and have never had a bird with SLM.
