Hello,

I received these chickens from my daughter's school through. I am unsure of the breed? The lighter one looks a little like an Amaracauna but she has the red around her eyes? they are really sweet none the less..

Thanks

Mindy

cockerel ... well I was not positive about the gender... are you saying it is pretty obvious that the red is a boy? I hope not... I will have to give him up...

OK... I was suspicious .. that really bites.. I will need to return him... we cant have Roosters in the zone I live in... I really like him too...

What is the difference between an ameraucana and an easter egger? I have an ameraucana now and she is hilarious...

Easter eggers are bred from Ameraucanas as well as other breeds, making them hybrids. Some hatcheries breed them only to lay blue-green eggs, and some breed them to lay brown, white, or blue. Some incorrectly sell them as Ameraucanas. Ameraucanas are very rare and expensive, and Easter Eggers are not.
If you want to try and keep him, you could try buying or making a no-crow rooster collar to keep down noise :) Here's a video about how to do it and what it sounds like:
