My second batch of chicks and these are the first black chicks I've seen. There are four. I was hoping for some barred rocks but none of them have all yellow legs. One has all black on top and yellow underneath, and the rest have patchy black and yellow. Two have a smoky color with a black face, some yellow markings, and a white feather on the tip of their wings. One is similar but more black. The fourth is black and a copper/maroon almost. Their comb shape and beak color also has me puzzled. Any ideas? I got them in the "rainbow assortment" from purely poultry. The two photos are of the smoky one and the black maroon.

This is probably your barred rock. Most black birds with a white spot on top of the head will be barred or cuckoo. Since you say it has yellow legs and not pink, that takes out cuckoo marans, leaving barred rock or a dom.

I think you might have some Cuckoo Marans. I have 2 chicks that look alike... Except that they have different legs. The black one with the yellow legs is quite possibly a Barred Rock. The other might be a Cuckoo Maran.

Interesting! Now that I'm looking for yellow or pink feet, I am not sure, but they are more likely BR? Here is a better photo and a couple more.

This one below I haven't shown yet. Does not have a yellow dot on head and is more black than smoky.

This last one is my most favorite. Like a gerbil with wings! So poofy. EE or Amarucauna? I'm sure I butchered the spelling. Newbie!
