What breed/breeds should I get

I suggest Dominique also known as Dominicker Adult roosters are 7-8 pounds and hens are 5-6 pounds and lay nice brown eggs

Everyone has great opinons on this subject and I really can't complain on any breeds mentioned. My only added comment is becareful of any breed that has large combs and/or waddles because they can become frostbitten If you do select a breed that has large forementioned you can protect them with vasoline. You just have to be very careful and look for any discoloration (blue tint). Also the legs/feet may be a concern if you let them out in the snow. I haven't read all the posts. I would think if you didn't have NHR The dual purpose chicken that you are after, that you would be laughed out of the state of New Hampshire.

The NHR was developed there for the explicit purpose of eggs and meat and can handle the cold. What more could you ask for.
