What breed chickens do I have? And I think one may be a rooster?? Help!

So you can still eat them if they are fertilized? It just kind of creeped me out a little!

yes, for eating there is no difference between fertilized and non fertilized. They will only develop if you put them at 99 degrees or so for incubation. Don't keep him if you are going to separate him and make him live alone. He will be miserable. I always like having a roo around. If you don't he can be rehomed or processed for dinner.

I eat them all the time, no problems. Just don't incubate. Besides, your rooster would get lonely. And I didn't notice the red earlobes, oops.

thanks everyone. We wouldnt separate him permanently. But good to know you can eat them fertilized so we wont have to separate him! We would have rehomed him otherwise! But it gets hot here in GA so I will have to constantly check out there anyways to see if there are eggs:) Well whenever they start laying that is. I was trying to find out if these breeds are good egg layers or not. I think they may be white rocks and partridges:) Thanks for all the input from everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who commented on my post. It is definitely a rooster. He woke me up this morning trying to crow! It was quite loud so everyone was right. I think we kinda knew in the back of our minds but we just didn't want to bring that thought to reality. But he is a beautiful bird and he has some green coming in on his back too. We just might be eating fertilized eggs lol. Thanks everyone for all the input on his sex and what breeds we may have. He has now been named "Daddy" by my 4 yr old son. So we have one rooster and 5 hens! Their names are Dorito (our other brown one) anf the 4 white ones are Que (Que ball), Snow, Digger (Grave digger-my son likes moster trucks) and Crip bc she has had a broken toe since she was a baby! Thanks again and I am so glad that I stumbled across this wonderful site!

They haven't started laying any eggs yet so I am just going to keep an eye out. Not sure when they start laying but I read somewhere around 9 or 10 months and we got them mid February sometime maybe around the 20th so they aren't even 3 months old yet so we still have awhile! Thanks for the info though
