The hen. I got them from from a lady that has a whole bunch of breeds a feed store had put me in contact with. She lays light brown eggs.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Blue Australorp perhaps.. :pop

Skin color on the bottom of the feet is one clue.. yellow or white? Are the legs clean or feathered? Ah, I zoomed enough to see clean legs.

What is wrong with her eye. can she see out of it?

Looks like a lovely mum and family! :love

Oh yes. She can see. I think it was just the shade from the trees or something. The bottom of her feet are white.

Oh good! She is gorgeous.

I think it was her 3rd eyelid (nictitating membrane)..

White feet bottoms means white skin which also does line up with Australorp breed and blue is an accepted variety.

Other clues in addition to skin color are.. ear lobe color, egg color, comb type, shank color, eye color, feather pattern/color, body type, toe #, clean or feathered shanks, etc.. Some qualities vary within any breeding group so I could be mistaken, but there's compelling evidence within my experience that lead me to believe Australorp in this instance..
