What breed do you suggest?

i would say muscovy i have Caramel and white, black and white, sliver and white, gray and white i also have one who is silver caramel and white they dont lay many eggs but do like to go broody and hatch as you can tell i like a color variety i have a male who will eat out of my hand and let me rub him but does not like to be picked up

I've looked into that breed as well, probably going to try out the Cayugas. Thanks though.

Sorry for asking so many questions but, if you have any good tips on raising ducklings please share. Like any neat and crafty ways to teach them commands (not like sit but more of go to the coop) or what and how to feed them would be great as well!

Until the ducklings reach 8 weeks you should feed them unmedicated chick starter feed. After that, feed them unmedicated chick grower feed until they are 16 weeks old. Then feed them layer feed after 16 weeks if they are girls and game bird feed if they are boys.

They should have access to food and water 24/7 until they are 8 weeks old. After that I feed mine 1-2 cups of food per day per duck. 2 cups during winter and 1 cup during the warmer seasons.

The raising duckling sticky i linked you to is good. Covers the basics.

As for food, you can use duck starter, chicken started( i prefer UN-medicated, while meds have changed it's easier to just say no lol) with added niacin, flock raiser or all flock, multipurpose feeds. Read the labels.. they should tell you the age that they are suitable for.

i herd my ducks into the coop mind you this winter has been so brutal 98% of the time they are in their coops/barns before i get out there.

You've lost me with that statement and usually clipping wings is sufficient, actually i'll step that up a notch and say i leave mine full flight, not everyone's circumstance suit this no, but their are options beyond permanent.

GQ, the OP says they live in a suburban area and with that being said, having your ducks fly upon your neighbors house or pooping on their sidewalk does not induce a good neighbor atmosphere. No, it's not for everyone, but they asked for 'opinions" of what duck, and that was and still is my opinion. Clipping wings is ok, IF you keep up with it for the life of you duck. Pinion then at day one and never worry about them flying to your neighbors rooftop.

I realize that some people are against pinioning and I understand, but I pinion my ducks on day one.

Thanks for all the information. It's been a great help :)

i clip my duck wings one time well as soon as they start flying then it only takes me one or 2 times then they think they cant fly i haven't clipped wing in a long time now and never had one duck fly over the run as for training them i just tell my duck go up and they start going that way i got them doing this by when i went out to lock coop and they was still out herd them and get them walking to the coop and every time i would tell them to go up and now that is just where they go for me
