What breed dog to get/avoid?

We have a "red" golden retriever and she is simply AWESOME. Loves everyone, thinks she's a 65lb "lap dog".

They do have a lot of hair and do shed....but we couldn't ask for a better companion.

A good alternative might be a boxer. VERY good with children, short hair, very loving. If we were to ever get another dog, I think a boxer would be at the top of our list.

I've seen enough labs and goldens in my lifetime. I would never get one. Just my personal experience. But since you already had one I see you probably like them.

I perfer super smart. And after the loss of my toy poodle. Whom I loved. But I wouldn't get a poodle again. I can't seem to find another dog I would like.

Husky's are not probably a good choice though. They are very independent. And not easily trained.

ETA: I don't like Goldens. But hmmm. Now a Golden Doodle might be interesting. I really loved my poodle. But he wouldn't of made a good farm dog.

My dog is on the decline as well. We had originally been thinking a Rottweiler or German Shepherd. But, I really don't want to rescue those breeds. I did attempt it earlier this year with a Rott, and didn't have good results. Don't get me wrong; I love both breeds, and have nothing against them. But, they are both breeds that I would prefer to get from reputable breeders. I"ve been trying to steer my husband away from backyard bred dogs on Kijiji and Petfinder. With that being said, I guess the same would hold true for any breed. And, with good breeding there really is no guarantee that the dog will be a perfect specimen. Now, I'm actually leaning toward a Bassett Hound. A big dog on short legs! LOL It's a breed I've always been partial to. Until now, all of my dogs have been rescued mixed breeds.

I'm not sure how a doberman would do with all my free ranging animals. I can't think of any dogs that wouldn't chase them actually.

Thats why I'm dogless right now.

Dogs and little critters are just hard to mix.

True. VERY loving, but dopey and those tails can sweep a coffee table clean in seconds.​
