My daughter's boyfriend found this bird in the highway this afternoon. Guesses?

Yes, that's a Cornish X. They're meat birds and it was probably on its way to be processed.
Sadly, they can't really live quality lives, because they're bred for meat. If not culled and let to live they will have many health issues.

Is there a meat processing plant near you? If so take it there and have them process it for you. Then leave it in your refrigerator for about four days before cooking it, and it will be nice and tender for you.

Cornish x, unfortunately, it's gotten too big and will need to be put down.
I was worried I was hopeful that if we can get it living somewhere out and about foraging it might have a chance? I've never done meat birds since I wasn't even sure on the breed. They're going to be heartbroken 😔

I'm not sure it was my daughter's friend they live several hours south of me. He bought all his stuff for this poor bird already hasn't a clue. I don't have meat birds but I had a feeling I just wanted to be certain

Not at this point, no. It can't even move.
Putting an animal down, especially one that they've had for only a few hours, that needs it is hard but it's for the best since it can't live more than a few weeks before it suffocates under it's weight or organs fail.

If they want a chicken, suggest they go to the feed store and buy a small amount (3?) of chicks. Or see if anyone is selling egg laying hens on craigslist if you want one that lays now. But that particular chicken was probably injured when it fell off the truck, and as a CX, it won't live much longer as others have stated without significant health challenges and pain. Processing it now is the most compassionate thing to do.

Sorry to tell you this. They can bury it, or it would make a delicious dinner.
