What Breed & Gender are they?

thanks for the info on the pea comb. i figured those other two (& all the plain-jane chicks i have) are pullets. any idea as to breed? how can you tell breed, since more than one breed has similar colors?

I agree pullet, breed...........hmm. Looks like some dark color on the face, and is there really reddish coloring on the wings or sides? Sometimes folks say that's dirt/clay, not feather color.

That dark to the face makes me wonder if something barred hooked up with something with dominant white? IDK if any color would come through. She looks lighter-bodied, like maybe some leghorn blood.

re: the photos above: i concede that the red one & the barred ones are roos, but the white & black one (see above & below) has a fairly small comb - so why do you think its a roo? sorry the photo isn't great but it is a profile shot. the other two (white w/beige having a dust bath and a solid black one) look like pullets to me. any idea what breed? thanks again
.

Sorry, that black and white bird is definitely a cockerel. Look at how red his comb is, and all the rows of peas on it! Pea combed birds have smaller combs overall, and they develop later. It makes them difficult to sex sometimes, but the one you have is really clear. A pea comb that developed that young is 100% rooster. I believe the third (dark) bird is a pullet, but it would be easier to be certain with a closer head shot. I can't see the second bird well enough to say.
