What breed/gender? Should be easy as I am fairly new to this.

The bird's head is cocked to the side, making it look like the flat "plane" that a dominque would have. But, it looks like a single comb to me...just photographed at an odd angle.

They are NOT the same at all! Araucanas are rumpless and have tufts, and they lay blue eggs. Americanas have muffs and come from an Americana bred to another Americauna and can lay blue eggs, but green are common also. EE's are mixes that can have muffs but can also be clean faced and lay mostly green eggs.

I'm not an expert so I tried to get all that right, if something is wrong I'm sure a more experienced person can correct it.

americana, ameriucana, amuricana, amuricena, ameruicina. They all lay colored eggs, Unless you get some trash from a "breeder".Get one from a hatchery and you can't go wrong.

Ameraucanas from a hatchery are called Easter Eggers...they can lay green or even BROWN eggs. Some have been known to lay white. So yeah...you can go wrong with hatchery stock.

yeah... i was UPSET because i THOUGHT i was getting ameracaunas from the hatchery,, but i actually was sent EEs..

i want poofy cheeks and blue (or green) eggs!!!!
i got some ugly plain ol' chickens that 1/2 of them laid "pink" eggs, and NO poofy cheeks!!!.. now i am having to get rid of all these EEs and search for TRUE ameracaunas..
it really depends on WHAT you want

breeders are actually where the actual bloodlines come from most of the time... Many of the good breeders import they're lines from where the birds originally came from just due to the fact that many of our birds in the US are crossed with other stuff.
