What breed is my rooster? And my pullet too. (Pics)

OK. Since there seems to be such an issue as to coloration. Let me explain something.

Barred Plymouth Rock males have a double-dose of barring. This makes them appear lighter than pullets. That male that you have is a black sex-link male. He only has ONE copy of the barring gene because his mother had NO barring.

He is a black sex-link cockerel and the pullet is a sex-link pullet (red sex-link pullet).

red comb at 4 weeks sounds like a rooster, you mean the barred one right?

question #1 Does the barred one have redish feathers on the shoulders and back?

question #2 Does the barred one have very dark/solid black tail feathers?

Barred rock hens and roos have different plumage colors.
Rooster have 2 copies of the barring gene giving them more white than black.
Hens have only 1 copy of the barring gene giving then more black than white.

however Black sex-link roosters look like barred rocks except they only have 1 copy of the barring gene making them colored like a BR hen. Because they are a cross between a Barred Rock hen and Rhode Island Red rooster. Some RIR color traits can leak through.

If so that would be a Black sex-link roo.

BTW, Here's a Barred rock with 2 copies of barring for comparison.

Correct!

Which is why the females are the ones used in a sex-link cross. They will give the male offspring the barring gene, whereas if you used a pure Barred Plymouth Rock male in the cross, all the offspring would have 1 copy of the barring gene.

well at least I know what he is now...I am disapointed though. I wanted to show him at the fair.

I think I heard him trying to crow this morning. The rooster next door was crowing and then i heard a strange sound from him. It was like caaa-caaaa lol.
