What breed is she? Is it too early to tell gender on this one?

Hi all,

This is my girl Casino. She is a little over a year old - best guess. She's a "wild" chicken here in Hawaii. She showed up about a year ago and was friendly and not afraid of people- unlike most of the other wild chickens running around. She is about 3 pounds - which I read is average weight for wild chickens. Anyone know what breed she might be? Just curious.

Here's one with her ex-boyfriend Poker Face. He ran off with another hen at the beginning of the year. He is a common type of rooster around here. What breed is that?

Also, a few days ago a new friendly chicken showed up. Strange how this one showed up almost exactly a year after Casino showed up. It's like someone is dropping them off. Anyways, I'm wondering if it's too early to tell if it's a rooster or hen. Don't have very clear pictures. Sorry.

Here we tested how easy it would be to get her in this cage. Too easy. Poor thing is so hungry I guess.

So was the roo.

Wow - thanks! I googled that and she really looks just like the ones on the web. nice to know.

I'll have to take some better pictures of the new chicken and post them tomorrow then.

The new chicken looks like a hen to me not sure on the breed though but looks like the same type as the others you have.

i dont know what poker face is but it looks like a preety bird

They are prolly game of jungle fowl decent, as Old English do not have white lobes. The young bird last pictured is a stag (or young male)

Here is a hopefully better pictures of the new chicken. I'm hoping it's a hen - but either way it's cute and we have been feeding it. It just seems like a lost child. All the other wild chickens run around in the bushes on their own or with others. This poor thing just seems to want to hang around us. I really wonder where these ones who are friendly with people come from.

Game chickens, probably not purebred, but they do look like my Old English.

I've got a friend out here with a free-ranging flock of them that she doesn't even take care of, I go out to her place every so often and scoop up all the chicks I can catch. They are sure tough little things, I've set them loose on my farm and don't really feed them or anything and they're doing great. I have only lost one, and that's because I put it in the coop and some bigger chicks trampled it to death in the food dish.

I think they're just beautiful birds, I love them. One of my hens is really friendly; whenever I go in the run she flies up to my shoulder and rides around on me while I work. The others are not that affectionate, but certainly good-natured, even the roosters.

Yes- the wild chickens are so much fun to have around. They really amuse me everyday. That's so funny that your hen will ride around with you. Even Casino isn't that close to us. She only lets us touch her when she is starving and eating. I am trying to deworm her and it is pretty tough to grab her these days to give it to her. Plus she's been spending alot of time with her new "boyfriend" (We call him Zack) up in the bushes and only comes out once a day to eat some feed and catch some geckos. I think it's also cause it's been really hot. It's so funny - we'll go up to where she stays and call her - you can hear her and Zack rustling around up there - she'll come down and he hides up in the bushes squawking or cock a doodle dooing. The whole time she's with us he'll be lurking up there - calling her once in awhile. She'll respond - as if saying - "Hold on - I'm hanging out with my people friends - they help me catch geckos and stuff!" Then when she decides to go back up she'll look up there - squawk a little and he'll kind of cluck - and then she'll run off up there. So fun.
