What breed is the best?

Hello, I was thinking of adding a few more chickens to my flock and was wondering what the best breeds where to get?

I am looking for friendly and good egg layers. I was thinking in getting a buff Orpington but I wasn’t sure.

Can't really go wrong with Orpingtons, imo. All around good chickens.

Orpingtons are super friendly and pretty good egg layers. I have two and it was really easy to tame them; they follow me like puppies.

Buff Orpington’s are by far the friendliest chickens I’ve ever owned.

That’s true, but Buff is the most common color and very appealing

Before you jump on the Orpington bandwagon, what characteristics matter most to you in a chicken?

Eggs?

Heat or cold tolerance?

Temperament?

Appearances/colors?

Capable of ranging or, conversely, able to tolerate confinement (can be important in severe winter areas where snow keeps them out of all or part of their usual run/ranging territory)?

Broodiness?

Historical value?

???
