I bought what I was told were two hens. One barred plymouth rock and the second I was told was a heritage "pheasant" plymouth rock (which I assumed she meant partridge rather than pheasant because I can't find anything on "pheasant" rocks). The woman I bought them from said she searched forever to find a breeder of the "pheasant rocks". Now that they are 12 weeks, I am pretty certain they are both roosters, correct? The red one, however, looks a lot like a Rhode Island Red. Not sure. What are your thoughts?

Nice thick legs, red, developed waddles and comb, and the curly tail feathers are developing. You have Roos

That's awful for some one to sell you roos and saying they are hens. Did you get them at a swap or can you return them for hems our your money back?

Red bird is a production red. Barred bird is a Barred Plymouth Rock. Both are definitely roosters--I'm sorry.

The red /brown one is probably a Hatchery New Hampshire.......Your statement that the seller thought it was a Pheasant Plymouth Rock indicates that he/she didn't know what they were....They would make good fryers....Old Fashioned breeds that are non-hot house grown taste better than store chicken...S get your knife and frying pan and give it a go...

Thank you all for the responses. Being new to raising chickens, it is great to have this resource for assistance. You all confirmed my belief that we have two roosters. Unfortunately, the person I bought them from is relatively new to raising chickens as well and apparently is not as knowledgeble as she thinks! We have had them for over a month and have grown a little attached so we would rather not butcher them. Fortunately, we live in the country on a couple acres and do not have the restrictions that many others face in this situation. Although they are buddies now, my fear is that when they mature, they may fight for dominance over the hens. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Thanks again!
