I received this chick from sunny side hatchery in Wisconsin and it was called a special black. If you know what breed it is or you think you know please comment below thanks!

That's a lot of black.

Ayam Cemani?

The roosters are pretty cool looking. Bat Chicken?

I've heard they are a pretty docile breed, but the black innards and black egg yolks might turn off some people. It's an Indonesian breed.

For the price I highly doubt that the special black is the Ayam Cemani. The cheapest I could find an Ayam Cemani for was 6 chicks for $300. The special blacks aren't even close to that price. I don't know what breed it is, but it's a good looking bird. Enjoy your chickens, and

Even for black sex links their price is better than I paid through Welp Hatchery.

I use Mt. Healthy, they have better prices. Bulk discounts and bonus chicks if you want them. I've never had a problem with chick mortality. They did send me the wrong order once, but they overnighted the correct order, and doubled it no charge. Customer service is an actual person and they are always very helpful and friendly.

Thanks for the tip Farmer Tony. I will keep that in mind the next time I order chicks. The one thing I did like about Welp was free shipping, and they did have comparable prices with some of the other hatcheries. But I will keep Mt healthy in mind for next time. Thanks again.

They told you what it is....a Special Black. It's not a breed, it's a mixed breed strain the hatchery has come up with, like their other offerings of Sagittas and Browns.

A black hen that's going to be a great layer of brown eggs.

It looks just like my 2 that were sold to me as jersey Giants but I am now 90% sure they are in fact black sexlinks

Jersey giants are not pure black when they are chicks.
400

These are my jersey giant chicks, as you can see, they are not plain black.
