Its quite early to tell yet but it might be a gold laced wyandotte due to the colouring

Where did he come from?

Considering the single comb, feathered shanks and green legs--I'd guess he's a mix. Maybe Cochin and Campine (or something else with a single comb and dark legs). I'm sure you'll get several people saying Easter Egger mix, because that's the favorite response to any bird with green legs.

Random eggs from a mixed flock, or eggs that were supposed to be pure? Did the eggs come from your flock or somebody else's?

I agree, I don't see a purebred anything there. The mother and father each could have been pure breds of different breeds, or even different color cochins. I'd ask the person with the parent flock, if they have pure bred eggs you'd sure think they'd know what breed.
