They are superb flyers in their youth. I'd guess she went over a fence and couldn't find her way back. Lucky you!
 
I hate to intrude on this thread but I have the same type of chicken and not sure if it's a hen or a roo. I call it Boo. Here's a pic

The one next to Boo is it's buddy, Roo who is a Buff Orpington rooster for sure.
 
I know Roo is a rooster but I didn't know about Boo.
What about the chicken that davedavey orginially posted about that looks like Boo- hen or rooster?
Do you know what chicken breed Boo and davedavey chicken is? Don't worry about Roo I know he is a Buff Orpington.

The original poster's questions were answered. He has an Easter Egger pullet. Pullet is a young hen.

Your Boo looks like an Easter Egger cockerel. Cockerel is a young rooster. He is just starting to look like a rooster with the long, pointy saddle feathers coming in now but he'll look more and more like one as he grows up. Females NEVER get rooster feathers so there is no doubt.
