I compare his pic to other barred rocks and none of them have solid colored feathers. thats why i asked

He's not a pure barred rock. He had one barred parent and one non-barred parent, you could call him a black sex link if you need to put a name to his "breed". See the yellow-ish gold feathers, those will increase as he ages, and if he's like my bsl boys he'll get more solid feathers.
