Hi, I bought a fertilized egg from a local breeder labeled "Sussex" for my broody Silkie to hatch. I posted a picture of her in a Sussex thread and got "that's not a Sussex" but not a mention of what she could be. She is now 12 weeks and still has a bit of pale yellow but her color is emerging.

Maybe mama was a sussex and who knows who the daddy was ?????? In which case you may have a MUTT. The best kind to own. Most of mine are mutts. I got them cheap. ENJOY YOUR CUTIE .

I'm curious on what basis someone in the Sussex thread told you that she's not a Sussex. I'm no Sussex expert, having had only the Speckled and Light varieties, but I do know that there is a White Sussex, which is very rare in the USA, and I know that there are a few breeders of White Sussex here. Whether or not your pullet is a White Sussex (it might be a mixed Sussex) I don't know, but I'm betting a lot of other BYC members don't know either. I would personally like to hear from a member who is familiar with White Sussex, and can tell me why or why not that this is a White Sussex. Anyone out there know about White Sussex?

It looks a bit like a Coronation Sussex to me. And I'm not 100% sure it is a pullet...

Ask the seller of the egg you hatched what breed/varieties of chickens they keep. Then you can be sure of what breed or mixes it may be.

I saw something like this once I believe they said it was a Lavender Sussex.
