Are they 100% sure on that? He's very large to have a bantam father and leg feathering is (usually) preferred in Cuckoo Marans.



Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Sapphire Gems the product of one hatchery? Meaning the 'secret formula' they use is what makes a Sapphire Gem? Sapphire Gems are therefore Blue Sex-link, but not all Blue Sex-links are Sapphire Gems.

I'm of the opinion that he is probably a Cuckoo Marans mix going off the white/pink legs. If you knew what potential parents it could have had it might narrow it down. Either way, he's handsome. I always enjoyed my Cuckoo Marans.

Sapphire Gems are a product of Hoover's. The creation was made oversees and Hoover's imported eggs from their parental stock. They also did the same with another line of hybrid birds from them.
That bird is way heavy to be a Gem and Gems do have yellow shanks. Hoover's changed their parental stock in the second season and switched to using birds from both lines. The other line also has yellow shanks. The resulting Gems had the same general build but began showing leakage. Especially in the males since the new birds used were a wildtype pattern.
