We are new to chickens, only had them about 5 months. I just read about fowl pox and I am worried. Do you think that is what it is? If so, what can I do to help? Is it contageous?. What can I do to prevent it?

Here is a picture of the rooster we got with her and a rooster we have had since we started. They both have sores on their comb. Our origional roo has had sores for a week or so, thats why he was by his self until we got these.

I think the bird looks ill and would cull it, personally. If you want to persue treatment, there is a section for diseases and emergencies with a checklist to go through about symptoms, etx and some of the folks there may be able to help you.

Your hen does certainly appear sick, though I'm not 100% sure on what could be wrong. I'd post this in the Emergencies, Diseases, Injuries, and Cures section of the forum. I'd get her started on some vitamins, make sure she eats enough, and worm her with a broad-spectrum wormer. Her beak also needs to be trimmed in order for her to eat properly. The sores on the rooster's comb appear to be pecking injuries, though they could also be a form of dry Fowl Pox.

I have aded sav a chic probiotic and electrolites to her water. She is eating and drinking. Thanks to all. I will post her in disease forum.
