So, after reading this thread several times, I jumped over to the "Genetics" thread and pulled up the thread on sex links. Here is a quote from the article...

"Q 7 Are there other varieties of males, not in the table, that can be used to make black sex linked crosses?

A. Yes In making a black sex linked cross, almost any variety of male ( white or barred should not be used) can be crossed with a purebred barred hen to produce black sex linked chicks. The barred female must come from the black sex linked table or have the correct genotype."

The sex link/feather sexing thread is really interesting. It's save as a sticky so really easy to find.

It is possible that your chick is a sex link pullet. All that is required is that the hen be the correct barred genotype and the rooster not be white or barred. So, the roo used in the sexlink pairing could have been a Dorking as someone suggested which would give you the extra toes. I don't see anything about the chick that suggests Silkie was used. It's definitely a mix whatever it is.

Guess we'll have to see if it crows or lays an egg.
