What breed is your favorite in your flock?

I was wondering what breed of chicken is your favorite one in your flock? By favorite I mean who is always looking for cuddles or just eager to see you, who lays eggs most consistently and who gets along with others….
I want a diverse flock but I want my flock to be friendly. I see them more as pets and producers of eggs. So who’s YOUR best breed ??

Easter Eggers and Orpingtons, any color. Super snuggly, run to see me, really sweet etc. They know their names and come when called too. I highly suggest these breeds!

I think I got 2 Delawares from hell. They are the meanest in my flock. They bite and peck me all the time. They are about 12 weeks old, so I’m hoping as they get closer to laying they will mellow out. But I’m a newbie to chickens...

Mine did. Wasn't ever a huge snuggle bug, but she grew to enjoy being petted, and was hugely protective of me. If the mean rooster came too close, she pecked him on the head and sent him on his way! Panda was a top hen. Unfortunately, a hawk took her the night when we got our current chicks. She would have been a good influence on them all.

Mine would definetly be the Sebright.
I have one named Stormy who is the funniest little thing ever, and she hatched two beautiful babies, the sisters Silver (silver laced) and Penny Joy (gold laced).
PS. Note that Silver and PJ are both half OEGB.

buff orpington ^^ they're so round and cuddly and make such dedicated broodies, and when they're not broody they lay eggs the most consistently out of any of the breeds i have. my olive egger is a close second, she's not particularly cuddly but she's so curious and is always the first at my feet when i go into the chicken yard lol

I've got lots of cool birds, hand raised are friendliest of course but my favorites are my Isa Brown!! (light brown ones on pic and 3rd pic peeking out of the nesting box) they are chill, friendly, even the roosters (#5 pic). I handle them daily and they never jump at me like my first rooster who was an Easter egger. my one girl is hysterical to me and cheers me up every time u see her scrambling towards me for a treat

if you are going to free range these though. I would definitely say Easter Eggers and a good rooster to help warn the flock. Isa browns being relaxed as they are, may get picked up since they aren't as wild instinctively.

my girls lay consistently even in winter the first three years, large brown eggs. they all took a pause with this change of weather last week but that's the first time.

Who is sweetest? Well, I have a few varieties & all have their sweeties, but that's how I raised them...with hugs. They know me, the sound of my voice. They've gotten to know my sweetheart & now love him, too.

Barred Rock, RIR & Wyandotte are not typically snuggle lap sitters, but once I put one on my lap, they're content while I fuss over them, check for mites, trim toe nails & pet.

My EEs, ISAs, Comets & Buff Orpingtons are the love bugs! They will actually try to sit on my lap the moment I sit down. They'll even be tugging at my shirt sleeve if another chicken is getting too much attention...like hey Mom, what about me?

I have a few surprise mix breeds, they are a mix of who knows what, I kinda rescued them. They were skittish when I got them, but now they're ok with me picking them up & fussing over them. Befriending chickens is easy once they trust & know you mean no harm. I think when they witnessed me chasing off the hawks, I probably scored some brownie points then, too.

I'd have to say, my EEs, ISA Browns & Comets are the most outgoing & congenial of all. The ISAs & Comets are the Most fearless though. Their curiosity outweighs any fear & they are the 1st to willingly jump in my lap or run up to me & they are very sweet with other chickens. If a another chicken tries to bully or peck them, they either totally ignore the bully or look at the bully with an expression...like hey Dude, what's up, no need to be miserable, life is good. It's really amazing, because usually in the pecking order, someone is Always chasing someone else, but the ISAs & Comets Do Not Run. They stand their ground, yet remain cheerful! Can't chase or bully a chicken that won't run or cower & stays cheerful.The bully looks at them like, "Oh, guess you just aren't into sparring", & then just walks away! Fight diffused & over before it starts! They are amazingly good natured, refusing to engage in petty squabbling, thereby ensuring peace & harmony.

I've added a few ISAs & Comets to groups that were always chasing or pecking & All petty bickering & pecking stopped! I don't know if anyone else has gotten these results, but I swear those cute little ISAs & Comets are the peace keepers in my flock & are quite dear to me.

yes!! in total agreement, they are sweetest, most loyal and least finicky about being handled.. my one still perches on my arm each night when I put her on the roosting bars or need to transfer her to another spot.
I do think the one comment about the egg laying is true .. my smallest girl lays the largest eggs she's 2 1/2
