Hi Duckie BYC'rs,

I am new to ducks. I have these older ducks I was told they were Regular Mallards but, they are so big and only 7-8 wks old.

Hi Beth, I would guess either mallard or khaki campbell for breed and as for gender, if you listen carefully to the sounds they make you should be able to tell the boys from the girls at 7 weeks. The girls will make a clearer chirping sound whereas the boy's voices will be raspier & hoarser. From the pic the majority of them look like girls. Don't forget to clip one wing as they get older to stop them flying away.
Hope this is of some help.

You don't think they could be Rouen? Rouen look like big mallards. My male looks like the ducks in your photo as both male and female start looking the same. You should be able to tell sex by voice, if they have a raspy voice then it is male, if it's a peep-quack it's a girl. Pretty ducks!

they look like runners you will definately know by their stance. I almost will bet that your ducks are production rouens. when you go to feed them do they quack their heads off? your hens will be the ones that sound like the classic duck quack everyone thinks of. The drakes will have almost a smokers cough type of sound to their quack. Very weezy.
