What breed of duck should I get?

I live right on the Ohio River and I've been wanting to get some ducks but I don't want to keep them penned up. I will make a little shelter for them though. What would we be a good self sufficient duck that would stick around and not wander off?

I'm afraid that the river will be a strong "draw" for any breed of duck and that they will most likely venture off.

when you say you live on the ohio river how close? like so close everytime it rains you have to pack your stuff. ?
we live roughly 1/4 mile from the mighty green river in ky. and we have had ducks for a few years and so far they havent run off yet, and we have a lot of ponds even closer and every night there back in the yard. so I believe the answer to this ? is not what breed but how they are raised. we have runner, crested magpie, khaki campbell, and a hybrid 300. another thing we keep water troughs for the cows and kiddie pools, so if they want water they have a place to swim and bath i hope this helped

My house is higher up from the water. In my backyard i have a hill that goes down to an open lot and then there is an 8ft drop to the water. So I live pretty much right by the waters edge.
