Not sure about the flying. You could always clip the flight wings if you are worried - once they are old enough to fly that is. Almost all domestic ducks are mallard based, so there are no worries about mating. However, Muscovy (the type of duck I have) is not a mallard based duck. So, if a muscovy mates any other domestic duck other than muscovy, their offspring will be mules (in comparison). Hope that makes sense.Hahaha. He was making stupid faces too. Me and my hubby were looking at pics they posted of their ducks and he pointed out our ducky has the face stripes of this female mallard. So maybe that’s the parents. So stupid question- could he fly away if I let him outside when he’s full grown? And would he or she need a mate that is mallard?
Ok yes it does. I have read about mules before (sterile) but you did help clarify it a bit more!! I’m very anxious to see what he or she turns out to be. It’s growing like Frankenstein. The khakis are 2 days younger and when I got them he was only slightly bigger, now at 11 days old he’s pretty much double their sizeNot sure about the flying. Some of the pics of cayugu ducklings had the faint eye band. But, you will know more once it grows.
Thanks!!! You’re duckies are so adorable. My hubby saw the one pic and assumed those were mallard. He’s a hunter and assumed that’s what they were. Rouens look like wild mallards but are larger in size. Is that right? It's a Rouen mix.. Not a mallard. Rouens have 2 eye lines and mallards only have one.. I've got a few Rouen x Khaki mixes right now.. Although i'm not sure if your's has Khaki in him.. Definitely part Rouen though.
