OH.
Hi everyone I'm thinking about getting a goat but we don't have to much room. I don't no anything about goats so I need some help before I get one if I do. I have a few questions and any other info and advice will be appreciated.
Questions:
* Do all goats give milk?
* How much room do goats need? (Inside and out)
* What goats are nice, friendly, don't need much space and don't cost much?
Thanks everyone!

Yes all goats give milk as they are mammals. However some do give more than others.

Nigerian dwarf's(spelling?) are small and have a great temperament. Many people milk them too.

I'd suggest posting a thread on BackYard Herds(BYC's sister site). Scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page and find the link. Than sign up and post like you would on BYC. The format is different but you'll get the hang of it.

Hope this helped.

On BackYard Herds you'd get more(and better) answers.

I'm not sure if a bunny or goat would be better for me. Bunnies don't need much space right? Would a big dog cage work for a rabbit?(with a wooden bottem)

Ok, rabbits would chew wood and so it really depends.

Would they be purely for pet or are you thinking of making a prophet too?

Rabbit's don't need much space. They can live in a 2'X2' wire pen depending on the breed. Lion-head, mini rex, and Florida whites are a few of the smaller breeds(I think). Large breeds would be rex or flemish. More room is always better though 2'X2' is just a minimum(in my brain).

Goat's need much more space than rabbits. They also have more distinct personalities making them good pets. They very greatly in size. Also, you could get milk from them whereas rabbits are pretty much impossible to milk.

Everything depends on why. Pets? Prophet? Milk? Genetics learning? Weeds?

Any experts please correct me if I'm wrong on something. These are just my opinions and I'm open to suggestions.

I'll help any way I can though. :)

Thank you very much I would raise it has a pet. I'm thinking of getting a small to medium size rabbit instead of a goat since I don't have much room for goats. Any breeds recommend for me will be appreciated as well. I want a small to medium nice friendly rabbit that likes to be held often from the kids in my family. Thank you!

here's the bantams of the rabbits.
American Fuzzy Lop, Britannia Petite, Dwarf Hotot, Himmalayan, Holland Lop, Jersey Wooly, Mini Rex, Netherland Dwarf, Polish

Here's a list of medium sized rabbit breeds I found.
Dutch, English Angora, English Spot, Florida White, Havana, Lilac, Mini Lop, Mini Satin, Silver, Standard Chinchilla, Tan, Thrianta.

Here's more that would be a little bigger but not HUGE!
American, American Chinchilla, American Sable, Belgian Hare, Beveren, Blanc de Hotot, Californian, Champagne D’ Argent, Cinnamon, Crème D’ Argent, French Angora, Harlequin, New Zealand, Palomino, Rex, Rhinelander, Satin, Satin Angora, Silver Fox, Silver Marten.

And here's some giant ones.
Checkered Giant, English Lop, French Lop, Flemish Giant, Giant Angora, Giant Chinchilla.

Because you're on BYC I'm guessing that you have chickens. Just be forewarned that you can't have rabbit's where chickens live(or lived) because of some kind of disease. Now I've heard of black-head(turkeys/chickens) and that quail problem(quail/chickens) and this rabbit problem(rabbits/chickens) and haven't had any problems with any of them but you might. IDK but you might wanna study up on it.

Hope you're able to pick a breed! When you do get rabbits(or even now just planning on it) Join BYH! I'll welcome ya over there. XD

Since I do raise chickens and I'm getting a rabbit maybe I plan to keep them separated would this matter or can it still catch the disease?

XD sure!

Well, I think it was breathing the chicken ammonia but I'm not sure. So, it they aren't like rightnexttoeachother than I think They'll be fine. So, like not on the same floor. That's just my opinion though.

They'll probably be fine though. Also, since my last post I discovered that what people say rabbits need is 1 square foot per pound. So a four pound rabbit would need AT LEAST a 2'X2' pen. For a 6 pound rabbit a 2'X3' pen would work. But I'm working on a community pen right now and I'l have lot's of rabbits in a huge space. Way more that 10 square foot per rabbit! Not needed but they'll be happier and probably healthier cuz they can run around more.
