I have what I thought were 3 barred rock roos. Not that I wanted 3 roos, they just turned out not to be pullets. Two of them look right. The third has a bit brassy look to its hackle feathers. Everything else is barred but now it is getting its sickle feathers and they are black with a green sheen and no barring. Single comb. Anyone know a barred breed that looks like that? Will get a pic today and add that.

We need to see photos, of course, but BRs have lots of green sheen feathers. It's very common on both the hens and the roosters.

Brassy coloration can come from sun tanning, or being in the sun a lot in the summer. However, a lot of male Black Sex Links, which is an intentional cross using an RIR over a BR hen to produce chicks sexed at hatch. The BSL pullets are black with red leakage in the chest area. The male BSL is often mistaken for a BR, but as they mature, the RIR half of his makeup begins to cause red/gold leakage in the wings and other areas. The Barring on the BSL male is far less distinctive as he only received one barring gene as opposed to the two barring genes the pure BR male has.

Again, photos always are most helpful.
