My neighbor who sold me it said it was a Delaware. She confuses her breeds occasionally (she said her White Rocks were Buckeyes and her Buckeye was some type of Plymouth Rock) It might be hard to tell because he is beat up. I'll give you a quiz for fun. What is that black breed in the back that is partially off the screen? You don't have to answer that. I mainly want to know what the rooster is.

The local feed store, who gets their chickens from Hoover Hatchery, Stromsberg's chickens, and some other website that I haven't figured out yet. She usually orders assorted heavies, so it would be under that category

What about an Indian River rooster. They are here http://www.efowl.com/Delaware_x_Hampshire_Cross_Chickens_p/2050.htm. If you didn't click on the link they are a New Hampshire hen/Delaware rooster cross. Look at their artwork of the rooster. Don't you see some resemblance with head/neck feathers (I'm not sure what they're called. The neck feathers on both are yellow and white. You can see a bit of that on my rooster's backfeathers, but most are gone because of he was picked on by the previous owner's other roosters. The only thing is that Indian Rivers aren't supposed to have black feathers. Those black feathers are basically the only thing that stops it from being any of the suggested breeds are the black feathers. You're probably right about it being an odd hatchery bird. They might even be breeding a black star, australorp, or something else into to make it a better egg producer so it sells better.
