I am getting back into raising chickens after all but 2 of my last flock were killed off by predators. I went to tsc today and got 4 straight run leghorns, 4 straight run reds, and 6 unkown out of the pullet bin. I want to keep around 10-12 layers with 1 rooster. I am in south Georgia so the summers get hot and I want some hens that will go broody as I hope to let them hatch and raise replacement chicks for me. I want dual purpose birds as the extra roosters and cull hens will be going on the smoker. Thinking of buff orphingtons or maybe silver laced wyandottes if they get any in next week. They had some slw's this week but sold out before I got there. I haven't found much info on how often the slw's go broody so wanted to check on that.
