What Breed should I breed?

I am getting rid of my White Leghorns, and getting a new breed for Spring 2009.

What Breed should I get?

I already have:

RIR's
Easter Eggers
Buff Orps.

Oh yeah.. I want somthing that lays kinda well because I want to sell some hatching eggs.

The blue laced red Wyandottes are truly beautiful, and you can get 3 different colors and they lay a nice size lt. brown egg!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I have thought about..

Dorkings or Buckeyes...

But No hatchery sells the chicksthis time of year.

When breeding any animal you need to consider what your goal is. What do you want to produce? If you want to sell eggs then what would sell the best in your area and what is already being supplied. Some areas plain white eggs would sell the best. Some areas plain brown eggs. Other places colored eggs sell for far more than either of those. The size of egg will also have an impact. Most people want large eggs and larger eggs would sell for more. So pick which of your chickens lay the most desireable eggs. Then compare other factors like whether you want to also breed for a certain look or temperament.

Do you want another white egg layer? If so I would get Blue Andalusians.

If egg color does not matter...I love my Speckled Sussex. They are so pretty and sweet.

Red Stars!(also known as cinnamon queens, sex-links, and other names) They are awesome layers! They are hardy and lay medium-x large brown eggs, through cold and warm temps. Very sweet and well tempered. GREAT family birds. You can tell their gender by their color(the only breed that you can do this with) all you do is look at their color and you can tell if one is a male/female, even when they are chicks!(males= light colored, sometimes whitish. Females= darker, brown color.) These are laying machines! LOL

Orpingtons are also great laying machines! Big, friendly bird. Hardy. brown eggs. medium-x large

Hi! I don't know how popular they would be for hatching egg sales, but you might consider Silver Campines, Silver Spangled Hamburgs, or Lakenvelders (I have a fondness for black and white birds).
They have all been good layers here.

I hardly ever see hatching eggs offered from any of those.
